Stripping Powdercoat from a craftsman

Anybody have any suggestions?

I've used aircraft remover and citristrip along with numerous other stuff that I knew wouldn't touch it anyway.
I've even tried overnight coated in brake fluid!
I've been able to get some slight bubbling with a couple products but at this point i'm about to either order up some B17 or take a torch to it and burn it off.
Any suggestions appreciated.

Oh yeah,also tried blasting with both 120g aluminum oxide and 60g slag/black beauty at various pressures up to 160psi.
Also tried strippers again after blasting off shine.
60g blasting will do it,but will take awhile and taxes my poorly sized compressor.
Hoping for a shortcut.

Powder Coat is hard to remove... that's why it is used.
It is not a paint, it is melted on using heat, Around 500 degrees +/-.....

The only way to remove it is by mechanical grinder, OR Heat, above 500 degrees... :smile:KennyV

Well,it's baked on at 400*-or at least the stuff I use does,and it isn't melted on. It's applied electrostatically and the plastic thermosets with heat.
At least as I understand it that's the correct terms.
I ended up just burning it off,used a propane torch.
It worked so well that I just fired up the burn barrel,laid a grate on top of it and set the parts on it.
Burned right off,and simply brushed the ash off and threw it in the sandblaster.

Yep ... your burn barrel should get it hot enough...
I love powder coat up to the time you need to "touch up" a spot... then getting a durable match can be a problem... You need to post some pictures of your progress... :smile:KennyV

Yeah,i'm simply changing the entire color as it seems much easier.
I bought a burned up GT5000 and am rebuilding it using my existing DYT4000 with upgraded engine.

I'm powdercoating everything red(ish),high gloss black and two stage chrome.
The body,frame and hood will simply be painted,unless my large oven is built by then.
The red i'm using has an orangish tint to it though,and might need to have paint custom blended to match.
Here's a pic I posted on a couple other threads here showing an idea though.
I do plan on posting a build thread of finished product,though it won't be finished till this winter earliest probrably.
