Stiga stops when I step off.

Hello forum members,
I am new here and cannot find an answer here in Holland.
We have a 5 yeaar old Stiga Villa 14hst front mower and it mows perfect. But the engine stops when I get off the machine, also when the moving knives are stpped (neutral) and the parking brake is engaged. I think it shouls stay running. For opening a gate or pikking up some debris or branches that is much easyer.
I checked some wires and connections, but see no problems. The switch from the seatingbis properly working. Any idea?

I’m not familiar with your machine but suspect your parking brake needs to be adjusted or the safety switch activated by the parking brake needs to be replaced. Since you’ve had it 5 years I assume that this is a new behavior and it used to stay running. The safety switch activated by setting the parking brake overrides the seat safety switch. I would look to see if the plunger on the switch is being fully depressed when you set the brake. If it is, you likely have a bad switch. There are many videos on the internet showing how to test for continuity with a multimeter. I can’t remember if the switch is supposed to be open or closed when the plunger is depressed. Someone here undoubtedly knows this. Or you can find it on the web.

Think you are saying, your seat switch is working??

If you get off the seat, should kill the ignition. That "normally" is a safety device working proper. I have NO clue about your particular mower. Maybe the others will chime in here.
 
Yes, I tested the seat switch, it is working properly. Is there a security switch on the parking brake pedal? If there is, that could be the problem?
 
I did a Google search on Stiga Villa 14HST and found a very complete manual. The file is too large to attach here, but you can easily find it with your own search. The manual shows that your machine has three safety switches, one on the seat, one on the power takeoff (the blade engagement lever) and one on the brake lever. Look underneath the body where the brake pedal connections reside. There is a bracket with a switch on it. I took note that its part number is 1134-3399-02. I suspect that this switch is supposed to be depressed when the parking brake is on and that overrides the seat switch so you can keep the engine running (without blade engaged) without being in the seat. Look under there and see if the parking brake is engaging the brake switch. If it is physically engaging that switch, then test the switch. I suspect the switch has failed.
 
Thanks OddJob and StarTech. I found the parking brake switch and controlled it. I connected the blue wires to forget the switch and the same problem stays: the engine stop when I step off the machine. So I think I cheched the 3 possible switches and the problem still exists. Any ideas what I can check more? Are there fuses somewhere?

Just pull the kill wire off the ignition coil. IF the coil/s are good, should run the fuel tank dry. IF your fuel system works as normal. Doing this you will have to pull a plug wire or two off to kill the engine.
