steering lgtx 1050

when mowing the steering clunks and skips gears. I put a new gear on the steering rod and the hex washer seemed fine. it didn't help could there be a bent tierod or something else? when it happens the steering seems to be binding preventing smooth meshing or gears.

is that the gear that works with gear on steering shaft?

It was the bracket plate where the hex screw holds the steering gear. the hole was worn and no longer round. had to replce the bracket plate and hex screw.
