Hello,

I have a Husqvarna YTH23V48 riding mower. The Briggs and Stratton Intek V Twin engine number is model 445577 type 2187G5 code 111209YG. I just bought it and it had a surging problem. I replaced the carburetor, fuel filter, fuel pump, air filter, spark plugs, oil filter and oil. I have checked to be sure the fuel pump is working and I can hear the fuel solenoid click when it's plugged in. I'm not sure the choke is working properly. I've tried to close it manually but there is not very much travel so maybe it's not hooked up right. I did let the mower run for about 10 minutes before I shut it off. It restarted once immediately after but then would not fire up again. I know there is compression and spark. I know fuel is getting to the carburetor and the solenoid is working. The only thing I have not yet done is change the fuel in the tank.

Apart from the throttle linkage and choke I don't know what it could be. It was starting fine before I worked on it, although it was surging bad. The mower was also filthy. The carburetor had dirt caked on it. Now that it's clean and new parts it doesn't know how to act right.

Thanks for any help. A video of the linkage setting and adjustment would be nice but I can't find one for this engine.

Is the choke closing fully .
Do you have the single combined throttle/choke or two separate wires.

Single combined throttle/choke. I'm not sure if it is closing fully. I will have to work on it again later today to see if I can figure out if the choke is closing correctly.

I would go light on that starting fluid. Repeated use may cause permanent damage. use gasoline in squirt can. I would check flywheel key, remove flywheel nut etc, look down key way for alignment.

Disconnect "Kill wire" from terminal and try.

I agree with bert above, sounds like the choke. I had the same problem with my Husqvarna with a Kohler engine. The choke would not fully close and it took me about 3 years to figure it out. To fix the problem I think you need to loosen the screw on the bracket that holds the throttle cable in place. push the throttle all the way forward and make sure the choke is fully closed. When you push it forward, the cable conduit should move into the proper position. tighten the bracket in place and I think that will solve the problem.

I think I have found the problem. I may have ordered the wrong carburetor. The choke arm on the carbs are not alike and the linkage is not closing the choke. I'm thinking now maybe I can change them out. I'll have to wait and try it on Friday after work.
