Starting issues with my MTD tractor

Must be something in the design; planned obsolescence. My 1995 MTD Briggs I/C 18.5/46 wouldn’t start yesterday. I’ve got spark, checked the plugs, yep, they’re ORIGINAL Champions and still fine. Check them every season. It looks like my carburetor mounted fuel pump has given up the ghost. The original fuel lines are a bit hard, so I’ll have those replaced too.
[I think this was one of the BEST $999.99 dollars I’ve ever spent].

Keep it running and don't sell it. Especially if you "think" a new machine is better cause they are not. That I/C engine is bullet proof.

How is a 31 year old engine, planned obsolescence ?
 
All things will wear out sooner or later. Not everything is made 100% perfect. Even God has made mistakes.

I just had a customer that had his mower in the shop two weeks ago for manual PTO lever replacement. He then goes out and mows 10 acres. When shut the mower down it backfired. Now it will not crank even pass TDC. Well it back in the shop with what appears to be an intake valve seat issue. I will pull the head to verify what is the cause today. Now that engine is a 2011 Briggs Single Intek. And this guy is rough on all his equipment.
