I live in the fingerlakes region in New York State. Im sorry to say I do not know what type of grass I have. Its brown now and just starting to turn green after the snow melt. What type of fertilizer should I use? Weed control products? I have used a scotts brand winterizer with weed control just before winter. I have a broadcast type john deere spreader for granual type products. any info will be a huge help.

My goal is to get rid of any nuisince type broad leaf weeds and to make my lawn greener and healthier.

What you want to use now is a weed and feed that has a pre-emergent it will help you not to get broad leaf weeds. Now it will slow down your grass that is now trying to green up but it is only temporary.
Now if you already have weeds you want to use a post-emergent.

Does your grass grow along the ground like a vine?
Is it thin or thick blade?

If your Getting broad leaf weeds we know it is not zoysia

If it is thin blade and puts out sprigs ( vine like runners ) then could be Bermuda.

If I lived in New York I would have BENT grass loves the cold and stays green year round.

Thanks for the advice CARS, that is helpful. My grass is mostly fescue, and here in north Georgia there are these purple weeds popping up everywhere this year. Not just on my lawn, but everywhere! Strange. I don't remember this last year.
