spitting engine oil

I have a kohler courage xt series and it spits copious amonnts of oil out the air filter.

Check the oil level
It will most likely be way too high, feel thin & smell of gas.
Solution,
1) repair leaking carburettor
2) fit in line gas tap as a secondary precaution
3) Change the oil at least twice.

Yes for sure check oil level. If that is good then for some reason I will say that your crankcase pressure is too high. There can be a number of reasons for high crankcase pressure. plugged vent, bad piston rings, head gasket, just some of the reasons???

Have you tipped the unit on it's side with the carb down? This will put oil in a lot of places it shouldn't be.
