SOLVED - TORO ZS5000 - nothing happening when turning ignition key...no problems the day before. (FAULTY SOLENOID)

Hi Slomo,

It is unclear to me how to proceed with point 3. (I do not know the official terms nor the unofficial expressions when it comes to working on electricity). Where do I put the black cable of the multi meter and where the red one? Also, what Ohm setting on the multi meter? I have 200 - 2k - 20k and 200k...

Scale on 200 Ohms. Probes on the large cable inlet and the large wire TO the starter.

The new solenoid (finally) arrived today. Replaced the old one, and it starts without a problem, again. A faulty solenoid was the problem.

Here is what the old solenoid looks like inside:



Especially the pole on the right is very dirty. The contact points:



Pretty much corroded. That explains it.

Starter solenoid does all the heavy current lifting as I call it. Normally first thing to wear out.

Glad to hear she is a runner again.
