solenoid and key replacement

I replaced the key and solenoid on my 1997 MTD garden tractor. I noticed a wire hanging that I have no idea where it is supposed to go or if it has anything to do with the lawn mower not turning over. I suspect it is a wire from a safety switch. It is a yellow wire with a black stripe. It no longer has a connector on the end and I cannot seem to find a spot where it may have been.
