snapper zero turn clutch testing

First step in diagnostics is a good visual inspection, not jumping online to find possibilities of what it could be. This is not a criticism, just sound advice.
 
So, I tested the clutch and it seems good. It loudly engages. I put the ohm meter on it, and got 4 ohms, hopefully that's good. The belt is gone, so that's the problem. The spring for the tension/idler pulley fell off, and I can't tell where it needs to go. I found a diagram, so I feel like I know how to run the belt, but there's no obvious place to hook the spring, other than a hole on the arm that carries the pulley. I need somewhere to attach the other end... I have a belt on order, it may be more apparent with a belt. I tried running 550 cord, just to align the pulley, but don't see where to hook the spring. The other person who works on it runs a lawn business, so he fixes a bunch of stuff. We looked at that tension spring together a few months ago without finding the answer. He did hook it up somehow, but here we are a few months later with a missing belt and the spring falling off.

Any ideas, or pointers to pictures? I have searched some, but haven't found much yet, other than a diagram of how the belt runs. I did unplug and reconnect the switch, and the connection seemed good. I also unplugged the connector at the clutch end and it looked fine. Thanks for the input everyone.
 
Auto Doc, thanks for the advice. I agree. Sometimes I do a little searching for info before I get my hands on it. This particular mower is about an hour from home.

Can you provide the manufacturer model and serial number information off of the product label? Parts Tree usually has good basic exploded view parts diagrams that may help along with parts also.
 
Of the mower? Sure.SZT18336BVE, serial 50205918. I looked at partstree and several others, and they don't show what I need to install the spring. They also don['t seem to list most of the engine parts, it's mostly mower, not motor.

The engine is not made by the rider manufacturer. It will have its own label or number stamped into the valve rocker cover. Some smaller engines actually have the numbers etched into the flat side of the engine block.
 
It's a Briggs and Stratton 18 horse. I don't have access right now. Partstree says motor is B&S Intek Model 31H777-0117-E1.

I found the hole in the lever. There is a bolt in the deck near the centerline, and a hole next to it. When I get the new belt, I can try and connect there. I can also look for the model/serial on motor when I am there. Thanks again. Yes, your link is Partstree's listing for this mower.
