simplicity 14.5 briggs

you will be better to take a lead off the battery, and set your meter to continuity, you don't need battery volts to read continuity because its very confusing, not only that, if you set your meter to continuity and you put it on a wires that has volts in it, it will blow your meter, always play safe.
 
Can you see the sign for the DIODE below 2000 in green set your meter there with the red lead in red right hand side, and the black in the COM, and make sure you have a lead off the battery.
