self propelled mower wheelbase

i have (2) 22" mowers one has a 7" longer wheelbase than the other. the only reason i can think of is a smoother ride. what other benefits is there to add that much extra material and cost to a mower?

It could be variations in design and packaging; i.e. rear-drive vs.front drive, whether you have castering front wheels or not, etc.

hi benski, both mowers are different brands,non castered wheels and both are rwd.i dunno,maybe the shorter w.b. mower seems to conform to the irregularities of the yards better than the longer w.b. mower,while giving up a smoother ride as a trade off.:smile:thanks:thumbsup:
