Scotts Intex Edge self-propelled mower parts

I inherited an old Scotts Intex Edge self-propelled lawnmower, (though a Google search also turned up "Intek" in addition to Intex),) 6.5 HP OHV. The plate says S014255730423 and Code 9047M. The customer service number on the plate is for Briggs & Stratton, not the lawnmower itself. Everything works fine except the self-propelled mechanism, but I have no idea what that part is called. Let's call it the Drive Control Cable. It is NOT the cable control that controls the startup of the motor. I need the thingamajig that makes it self-propel--the replacement part. Does anyone know which manufacturer made this mower. I have been told it is either Husquavana, MTD Mfg. or Murry. The lawnmower replacement parts companies can't find the mower identification name or number.

Question 2: Does anyone know if a generic part would suffice instead of an OEM part? If so, what would I look for or can you attach a link?

Thanks so much for responding. I have always been quick and impatient so I didn't clean the dirt entirely off the plate. After doing so having wasted two hours with no luck online, I found the model number. It is a Scotts Intek Edge, Model 21595X8B. I think it was manufactured by Murray. I found the parts diagram online, though it appears the self-propelling system consists of a number of parts I have to find. Curiously, the cable is attached to the plastic lever which mounts near the top of the unit. Now I have to find a parts dealer with told old parts made in 1999, or maybe I can get it repaired with substitute ones. I have a few inquiries out to online lawnmower parts companies. The local guys are mouth breathers who can say, "Duh," quite well.

Please double check your model number. When I plug it into parts lookup, it comes up as a simple push mower, not self propelled.

One site has it as a Murray with notes it came both in self-propelled and some as push models. One can buy 10 - 20 year old mowers here for $25 - $75 working but worn and needing TLC.
