Scag Tiger Cub - Replacing Wheel Motors & Pumps

Hi all,

Ten years ago I inherited a Scag Tiger Cub that had previously been rode hard. Over the last 3-5 years I've been having some drive control problems. The right wheel seems to pulsate and sometimes wont move, then just takes off rapidly. With both arms all the way forward the mower will turn slightly to the right. I've changed the hydraulic fluid (Castrol 20W50) and filter several times with no improvement. The mower has 1700 hours on it and I'm ready to replace both pumps and wheel motors this winter.

From what I've found, I believe the pumps are different, but the wheel motors are the same???

Could someone please verify and/or provide the correct PNs and recommend mfgs to use?

Thank you in advance.
Pat

Also, would it be better to run another type of 20W50 oil?

Thank you!

might want to price out a new mower. But, that said, I just rebuilt a toro mower that cost me near as much as a new mower. The irony is last night we watched a podcast of a guy who collects free mowers and works on them. He had two slightly later models than ours he picked up for free. All that was wrong basically was old gas. I know that a new mower for us would have been more cost effective, but we live in the prison colony of California where new gasoline mowers annoy the faux-environmentalists, and communist control freaks here.

I've replaced the PTO clutch a few years ago and other miscellaneous stuff as needed and put a bouncy seat on it, so I'd rather hang on to it... I'd rather keep this simple old carbureted mower versus a new EFI mower.

I figured if I spent $2k replacing all the hydraulics, the only other major cost would be a new engine.

California is a nice place to visit, but... I'll leave it at that... 🥹

Dang it! I just noticed all my spaces got removed between L & R along with the pn's so it's kind of hard to read above..

Here they are in a single column...

Would someone please clarify the hyd pumps are different and the wheel motors are the same, thus the "CCW" on the label, even though other numbers are different?
