I have a set of OEM rings #13001-7031 L,0.5
Are these file to fit rings?
Also the only markings on them is blue paint on one ring. So which ring is the top one?

This set is .020 oversized from the original. They are not file to fit. The top ring is barrel faced the second should be tapered. The paint stripe typically will go to the right of the ring gap on a tapered ring to help with the orientation.

Why can't the rings be filed ?
Also there is another ring set for this engine #13008-0582. Are these for standard bore?

I’m not stating that they can’t be filed. Kawasaki doesn’t have a procedure for filing them. It’s a lawnmower engine, not NASCAR.

OK so I'll file them.
I know the correct way to do it. Was taught many years ago.

No you were not
But as it is a mower engine it probably will not matter
The + 020 is a circle that is + 020" larger than the bore so you will nor get full contact pressure because the curvature is different
Over time the rings will wear excessivly at both the gap and 1/2 way round then break 1/2 way round.
filing down an oversized bore is a horrid bodge done when you are in a desperate situation and the correct rings can not be found
You will probably fine Total Seal with have a stock set of rings to fit .

Bert how do you know I wasn't taught correctly?
Were you in the same automotive class I was in?

Whoa here PN 13001-7031 is a std piston not a set of rings. If you have a 0.50mm over rings then you must have PN 13025-7010 or the wrong rings. Now the 13008-0583 is the std rings set. Std bore is 73mm.

Right on my piston the number is 13001-7031, yes I know that.
To put this to rest I bought ring set 13008-0583 for this piston.
