Riding mower runs at high rpm

Hi everyone. I have an MTD 12/91 with a B&S engine with the code 289707-0154-01 and the engine runs very high rpm when you accelerate. It idles fine. Does anyone know what the problem is? I will try to insert a video.

 
I would start by confirming the static governor setting is correct. And it still tries to run away, I would be strongly thinking that the governor itself inside the engine has failed.
 
Keep her UNDER 3600rpm at all times. 3500-3600 is fine. Do a throttle cable adjustment.

Download your engine manual for help. Will enlighten you with lots of informative details about it.
 
Youtube will have several videos on this. Search around a bit. Do you have Google at your house? Might try a search there with Google AI.
 
I would lean toward a bad or weak governor spring since the engine will idle.

As for the static governor adjustment it is quite simple. Go to full throttle while looking the governor arm. While holding the throttle at full throttle loosen the screw or nut. Now turn the governor shaft in the same direction as the arm moved and then while still holding at full throttle re-tighten the retaining screw or nut. This take the play in the governor assembly.
 
Throttle cable is out of whack. Anyone been messing around with it? Is this a new to you used mower? Did someone take the carb linkage apart? Take pictures if you are going to be messing around with carb linkages and throttle cables.

Take a picture of the throttle cable on the left side of the engine block. Left side being when you sit on the mower. There is a single screw on a white sliding block that holds your throttle cable. That white block slides left and right when you look at it. Nice big fat picture please or video even better.

Keep the revs down at 3600rpm.
 
Is that a clear vinyl fuel hose feeding the carb? Have you ever seen a mower burn to the ground? I would put a fuel rated hose on her if that is not one.

I would install a filter in that line if it was mine.

It does rev rather quickly with minimal throttle lever input. (y)
