I have a Snapper riding mower, 281013BE, which I purchased about 15 years ago.

For many years, I would cut the lawn with a setting of 6 or 5 and at the end of the season, I would use 4 for a short cut.

Now, I notice that 4 scalps the lawn, 5 is very short and 6, although tolerable, is still not as high as I would like.

I have checked and all of the spacers are below the setting on the chain, so that in theory, the lawnmower is cutting at the longest length.

So 2 questions.

- can I monkey and put my own metal and lift the deck even higher? i.e. use my own metal to lift the deck higher?

- how about replacing the tires, (it is time anyway), can I go with a larger tire size? I presently have 9 inch tires in the front, and 15.5 inch in the back.

Thank you in advance,
Herman

Welcome to the forum you will find tons of information for your mower here.

As for deck height, I just raised mine this past week it took me a bit of reading to find out how to raise the front of the deck. I have attached a screen shot from the series 1,2 and 3 owners manual.

If you need help please ask, I was working on my 5 series, but it wasn't until I read the earlier manual that I was able to find what I was looking for.
