Reseeding question

I live in SC and we have to deal with red clay. About a month ago, I planted about a 1,000 sq foot area, raked it in, the laid straw on top. I water it everyday for an hour. About half of the are has pretty decent grass growing, but the other half has nothing. We had a real gully washer rain a day after I planted it, and I think it washed away. My question is, seeing that I have a layer of straw on top, can I seed over the top of it? Or do I rake it up, spread new seed, and re-straw?

Thanks in advanced for any advise.

We have red clay here also and I find the best way is to till it up about 4 inch deep then rake the seed in.
I never understood the straw on top and I never use it.

What kind of grass you planting? This time of year thinking rye or fescue

I am using tall fescue. The straw helps keep it moist, and keeps the birds out of it. The seed was raked in, it was all new dirt, so it was easy....probably not easy now.

here is how i did it:
1. use thatch rake on the lawn.
2. cut lawn short as possible.
3. spray seed/starter fertilizer.
4. water everyday.

i get no results. why? thanks.

Maybe wait for a few more days?
Also, if there is no rain, you need to water it maybe 3 time a day but only 10 minutes or less each time just to keep the top layer always moist.

It also depends on the type of grass seeds and temperature. I reseeded in mid September here in NJ with tall fescue seeds and didn't see germination till 10 days later.

Look into a small spot, work it out with your fingers, see what has happened to your seed. Find some of them in other words and see what they are doing.
