Replacing an original engine with a modern one

Don't think that is quite the right title so here goes:

Other than the Hp rating between old, original, and modern engines is there any difference in the power, torque, rpms available?

If a new 6.5 Hp was used to replace an original 7 Hp, how badly would it affect the performance. I would imagine what the attachment is will affect the performance.

Forget hp these days on engines as it dosent apply.
Its all about how much torque an engine produces than overall hp.
Engine manufacturers were producing hp figures when testing engines at 3600RPM.
Most engines run at 3000RPM and would not be producing the stated hp.
This lead to a big law suit in usa that cosumers were being misled.
It all depends on what model of engine you want to fit.
 
Old racing saying - there is no substitute for cubic inches. Regardless of how the engines were or are tested, I would think an engine with similar construction (i.e. L-head or overhead valve) as the original, with approximately the same displacement would yield compariable performance.

Fire pumps are sold as being able to pump 2000 gpm and are capable of producing at least 10% more.

Hp is not what would look at! Torque at low rpm is beter on feul effeciancy and power. Remember you do not want your cutting blades to run at a higher speed than the designed specs
