Hello,

I have a curved shaft Stihl FS 50C trimmer and I hate the head that came with it. My reason for saying that is that it is extremely difficult to put new line on the head and it has very limited capacity. You have to have the finger strength of a gorilla to turn the knob when feeding new line onto the head and it is very temperamental, making it necessary to remove the line and start over when the knob won't budge.

Do any of you know of a good replacement head for this model that has more capacity and is easier to load? I looked at the Echo Speed Feed 400, but it is not compatible with my model according to the Echo website.

Thanks!

I would recommend going to your local Stihl dealer and letting them help you locate the correct trimmer line head. They can install it also if you ask nicely.

Thanks - that’s a good option.
Just stopped at the local stihl dealer and they have to research and get back to me, as none of the standard Stihl options will help. They are a major Stihl dealer, so if they cannot find a solution, I may end up selling the curved shaft unit and get a straight shaft pro model.

Get a straight shaft trimmer and an OEM Echo speed feed 400 head.

Ebay has hundreds of Stihl FS 50 C trimmer heads to choose from. Some are OEM

Whenever you get it going again, there is a little trick that another member shared with me....

Wet your trimmer head so the cutter line gets wet. Water helps strengthen the line so it will cut a longer amount of time.
