Replaced head gasket...now hard to start

I replaced the head gasket, I think I did good but apparently not. It is now extremely hard to start, I got it started once, but I had to manually turn the flywheel (the thing that spins) past the compression part...and it ran fine...there’s a new battery and starter is good, I am thinking there is too much compression for the starter to turn it over? What could it be? I have a brigs 19hp.

I have a new spark plug and new battery, new oil and filter.

The valves are not set properly.
or the decomperssor on the cam is buggered.
Why did you replace the gasket for in the first place?

Thanks for the reply, the gasket was shot, it was burning oil.

I was thinking that, I just bought a gap measuring thing, I believe it should be .03 and .05????

try adding another 0 after the decimal point.

Thanks... for all those others, make sure you measure .004 gap between the rod and rocker when replacing the head gasket...don’t just guess....like I did. ;-)
