Good morning.

Do you know how I should connect this cable to charge my riding mower? It's loose now and doesn't seem to charge.

I look forward to hearing from you.20251029_093353.jpg

Connect red wire to battery positive.
I had that idea at first too. And it seemed to work, but when the riding mower is off, the alternator still uses power, and then it draws power from the battery instead of charging it. So I wasn't sure if that would work, or if it wouldn't break.

Hello R.,

Welcome to the forum.

If I am not mistaken, this is a low output stator on a Briggs and Stratton that does not have a separate voltage regulator. It has an inline diode on the red wire hiding under the shrink tape (near the white connector). That diode is bad and allowing power to flow back to the stator when it should not.

It would help greatly to provide us with both the product identification label information (usually under the seat) and the engine model and type information that is stamped into the valve cover.

MTD made 100's of different model mowers, and it is a guess which one you have.

the terminal goes to the ignition switch.

The stator should not be drawing power unless the diode is shorted.

B=Battery
G=Ground
L=Ignition
S=Start
M=Magneto

Disconnect the battery.
Then use an ohms meter check for continuity between B and L terminals with the switch in run position but not in the switch in off position. If this is correct then yes you connect to the L terminal.

Sorry don't have make/break table for this Indak switch per say ie i don't have MTD to Indak cross listed here.

B=Batterij
G=Grond
L=Ontsteking
S=Start
M=Magneet

Thank you for your message. We will try.
