Boy what a splitting headache I got this morning...Seeing double.

Okay I got a Red mower with a black seat and four wheels.:rolleyes:

It is a problem I have never seen before. The engine has what I would call a random dead miss. It came in surging and would not run with the deck engaged. Found water in the fuel system; therefore, the Ruixing carburetor and fuel supply got a full cleaning. Now it has this random dead miss off load and under load. Anyone seen this problem that might point me in the right direction? It either has a loose valve seat or an ignition problem. Hate to pull the head and find nothing wrong but these engines do like to blow the head gasket.

At least the work load is now light as Fall approaches. Boy has it been a year of unique problems...

Oh BTW here is some more info that everyone would ask for. Second sentence was just a joke like we get a lot these type of equipment descriptions here...

How’s the compression? New spark plug?
My concern is water in the fuel can act as a stream cleaner in the cylinder and several damage the engine.
Is it possible it has a failing coil?
Trying to try to narrow it down before pulling the head and replacing the gasket.
 
NEW spark plug per the customer. But as I know new don't always mean good. I will have to see if I have a coil in stock for testing.

I will do a leak down later today as a compression test is useless on engines with an ACR. I did do an valve adjustment but for a 2020 engine that never been adjusted they they were only 3x the normal settings.
 
try replacing it with a known good used spark plug since the guy put his own in, unless he will pay for a new one. There are so many counterfeits out there now it is unreal. They can check fine out of the engine, but under compression they can fail.

The problem sounds like a lean misfire.

and sometimes a worn valve guide can cause that. Or even valves out of adjustment. so can that bad head gasket you mentioned if it is there.
 
Not a normal lean misfire.

I will use a new 2460 NGK for testing.

But I had call it due to the temps. I working on the rear section today for bearing noise. CVT bearings were Bad, Idler Pulley bearing bad, and I got to pull the transaxle due needle bearings failure on top of things. At least I have those bearings in stock.
 
A lean misfire can be a mixture that is right on the edge of being lean so any deviation leaner can cause a random misfire. I'd use the choke or my hands to richen the mixture and see if anything changes. That and the new plug will pretty much eliminate fuel and ignition as a source of the misfire.

Dirty Carburetor or Clogged Jet: Varnish from old fuel can partially block the tiny passages inside the carburetor. This restricts fuel delivery, causing the engine to run "lean" (too much air, not enough gas) and leading to random coughing, surging, or misfiring. [1, 2]

Already tried choking and all I got was overrich condition and continued misfiring until I got it too rich to run. IE started flooding out.
