quick attach blade system

so bought a X2 years ago , fabricated deck , these quick attach bade keep from spinning by 2 ears on the spindle that fit in holes on the blade , one of my spindles BOTH ears sheared off , i have another fab deck from one that blew a tranny , same exact deck except it has star blades

they want $170 for one quick attach spindle , i can buy all 3 star spindles for less , anyone switch from that quick attach to star spindles?

im putting the star spindle deck on the mower tomorrow , but would like to get away from quick attach system
 
Anytime I hear about a "quick attach" blade system it is because they did not hold up. They are made for lazy people who don't want to take the time or effort to use a safer blade system. The star blade type spindles are much more reliable ad safer.
 
Either way installing the correct 6 pt start spindle isn't hard to do. Its the owner that needs to use a wrench to remove and install the blade along with a block of wood.
 
first off i was a mechanic on a Ballistic Missile Submarine and logged over 2 years of my life submerged doing so , second was not asking how hard it was but more so were the different spindles compatible to swap one for another between the two 54 inch decks , after today am certain the swap is not only compatible but straight forward , both spindles are identical sans the method of blade attachment , the deck hooked right up and cut 4 acres beautifully , ive rebuilt mower decks before twice alone on my old Cub GTX 1054 , a monkey with a banana in its butt can do it , i just needed to dig the other deck out and compare the two but thought someone on the forum would know before i dug it out

The trouble that you might run into are the self-tap spindle to deck bolts snapping off. Try to tighten each one slightly before backing them out, this will usually break any corrosion loose and let them come out
 
Mic I wasn't talking down to you, just saying it is an easy swap as long they are physically the same height. On the fast attach it is that the spindle housing are shorter when compared to the 6 point housings. This is because the fast attach system would lower the blade too much if it was in a standard 6 pt housing.

You also got to remember we deal with people here that don't even know which end of a screwdriver is the business end.

Calm down Turbo. People needing help and people trying to help, that is what we are doing here. Glad you got it figured out.
 
The guy sounds like my brother, think he knows everything. But when he don't and asks for help he cocks an attitude about you know more than he does about a particular item. I help my brother even though he was calling me a know it all in a smart A way. Family help family most times. After 30 yrs of this I finally said enough is enough and him to go ask someone else which pissed him off.

No I not a know it all or claim to be one. At least I will ask for help when I need it or search for the answer until I find it.

Everyone needs helps at points in life with issues. Part of learning and growing involves a little humility to ask for and accept help. Then part of progressing is taking the help and learning new skills, etc. Then, offering and giving help is a rewarding part that I enjoy, especially when people are open and grateful.
