pull cord

I just purchased a Snapper self propelled mower model 1696607. The pull cord is so tight I can not slip it into the rope guide. I held the blade control against the upper handle and the rope doesn't move at all.

Purchased new or used? Check oil level on dipstick first. Remove spark plug & give it a try. Information on your mower.
