Power Poles with nails in them

Don't know how many of you run zero turns but here is one that you need to watch out for.

Many times with a zero turn you can run right up beside a power pole with your rear tire and go around the pole very close virtually eliminating having to come back and trim.

Often times a power pole will have a nail in it. Even if it is bent in so that you can't see it with a close examination it can very easily snag the sidewall of a tire.

Right after I got my Kubota I found a place where something had snagged mine and could not figure out what did it. I have since then found a second one in the same tire. (Left Rear) I noticed a pole the other day that had a nail in it that was bent almost flat against the pole that appears to be the culprit.

Thanks for the Heads Up! A nail could catch a foot or ankle on a rider I'd imagine if it were up higher. Never heard of your case before, but if it happened one time, it'll do it again. Being on a farm I have to watch out for loose hay strings, fencing wire etc. out in the field or near the fence. Don't want it to get caught in equipment or cows get in it.

Lawntractor can do the same thing. Ruins a tire in a hurry. Another one is the ground rod and the clamp on the ground rod at or near the base of the pole. Another one is the grounding wires or reading wires on some large gas meters. With those it gets wound up in your string trimmer.

The nail I am talking about was left sticking out of the pole about an inch probably and then bent over against the post flat. It is about mid ways up of the tire like a foot off the ground. Because of the color of the rusted nail and the color of the pole you have to get close to it and examine it to see it.
