Poulan riding mower

I to have replaced deck belts many times without removing the deck. In this case the OP wants to replace the drive belt, see his first post, and if someone has an easier method to replace a drive belt without removing the deck, I would like to learn how to do it.

Hello, took me a while to back
The dang them is just to tight to get around the last pully/ Any tips? I am getting very frustrated and the lawn is getting tall

This is with the break on all the way it can go..?...This is no way going to slide in easy :confused2:
This is the correct belt also.
 
If that is as far as the brake pedal can move the tensioning pulley it explains why the belt broke.
The tension pulley should move in so far that it just about touches the other run of the belt.
It has to go far enough to allow the belt to get so slack that it slips on the drive pulley without burning.
If the belt can not slip then you are doing the same thing as tromping you foot on the accelerator while the other is on the brake.
Something has to give & that is the belt.
If you manage to get this one on it will break within the first 10 minutes of operation.
So pull the tensioning pulley right off , along with the spring and work out why it is not travelling far enough.
Pretty sure you will find some debris in there jambing it.

You have belt with one of the following part numbers correct 161850/165813/532165813 and not the 584448801 as suggested in an earlier post correct.
 
The diagram that Fish posted is for a 1997 model HD145H42F which is a 1/2 x 82 inch belt which is also the length that Mark posted from Amazon, but you have a 1998 model HD145H42H which calls for a belt that is 1/2 x 85.
