Popping sound

Have you also found that most of the time the seat that comes out/loose is the intake valve seat.
it is that way in other aircooled engines. Suspect they get the most thermal shock and they are larger. That said, I would run the engine he has because it is a L-head engine. If it were an overhead valve engine, it would not be worth the risk of a catastophic failure vs the cost of a new head. However, if someone said, "hey I don't care if it lasts a week or five years, when it dies again we are buying a new one," then I would have them write a note expressing that is what they want, and do it. Some crankcases for L-head engines are around $250 or a new 190 cc engine $320 from Briggs. HF has a 173 cc vertical for $229. Used running Briggs engines can be found on FB marketplace all the time.

Mass produced small engines are not built to the tightest tolerances to begin with. They are mostly built for light seasonal use.
