Plate under riding mower

Is it safe to remove the rectangular plate under riding mower (Craftsman T2400) to view the pulley
layout, without inadvertently disrupting anything else?

Idler pulleys are attached to that brace plate. It also hold in place the pedals. It will have to be removed to replace the drive belt.

They are designed that way for a reason, don't try to reengineer it.
