Parking Brake Help Please?

Can someone give me a way to make the Parking Brake lock on my John Deere LX277? I think all the original parts are too rusty to work. I can and will modify to a certain point. I'd rather "home engineer" it than buy new parts. Help Please?:frown:

Maybe you can weld something together like a piece of metal that holds your brake pedal down or something i used for my simplicity 3110 ( rusty that if a brick hits it it falls apart) i drilled a hole trough the pedal and trough the frame so i can put an copper wire trough it and twist the cable around so that it doesnt come apart know what i mean?
