Is it normal for the rear wheels to have a little play when grabbed and shaken in to out, I'm not talking a lot at all just enough to make a clicking noise ? This is a brand new mower I only used it like 15 minutes.

Some play would be normal due to how the rim is mounted on the axle will allow some movement as well as the snap ring on the differential end of the axle can have some play also. And unlike a vehicle the axles are just riding on bushings for bearings not tapered roller bearings.

Vehicle rear differential axle rides on roller or ball bearings depending on the vehicle and not taper bearing at the wheel side. Now the Planetary gear section in the center chuck do have taper bearings while the Satellite gear are usually just shimmed. Now the old style front spindles did use taper bearings. Now front wheel drive spindles uses ball bearings.
