Walk behind need help

i was cutting the grass and ran over a big rock the mower shut off and won't start, anybody know what damage might have been done

Two things to check. First, pull the spark plug out and tie back the bail brake lever. Tip the mower on it's side, carb up. Look to see if you can tell if the blade is bent. If you think it looks straight proceed. If you think it is bent, remove the blade. Now with the blade on or off have someone pull the starter rope and watch to see if the end of the crankshaft is straight or wobbles. If it wobbles you have a bent crankshaft and at this point stop and report back to us how much you paid for the mower and all the numbers you have for both the engine and the mowers. We will tell you if it is worth repairing. If the crankshaft looks straight then check to see straight. If you feel it is straight reinstall it.

Now for the second test, we need to check the flywheel key. This will involve removing the flywheel. If you don't feel comfortable doing this report back and we'll tell you how to proceed. Do not buy a new blade until we have checked the key.
