Need advice ASAP

I just got this Briggs 14.5 from a family friend recently I changed the oil when I bought it threw it on a cart took a few short spins brought the motor back in my shop broke it down to remove governor gear and just inspect it, and found this other than a bad head gasket any suggestions on what coulda caused it and how I should proceed would be awesome and very appreciated.

Head gaskets just go bad after a while.
