My wifes friend said it wouldn't start gave it to me its a troy bilt tb 175ss ... It's a piece of crap got it running spark arrsstor screen was plugged carb was dirty lots of carbon in the exhaust (someone didn't know it was 4 cycle) trying to find valve specs his manual doesn't have any lol hate everything about this machine... Feels cheap its loud very shakey hesitant to engage trimmer they spent 100 on it used... I wish they would have came to me so now I get the honor of servicing it also doesn't say how much oil to put in. It's a flat pan with a cap I think I put oil in till its at the fill hole

Put it on a flat surface and fill to the bottom of the hole.

Of course it sucks, it s a Troybilt. DO NOT base your opinion of four cycle handheld on that machine. That's a mistake I made until I tried Dolmar's machines. Complete different world- light, quiet, smoothe, powerful...at the end of the day, a 2 stroke Troy sucks too!

I have one of the Troy Built electric start 4 cycle trimmers but I dont have electric start piece that turns the engine over. I like everything on it except its a few pounds heavier than my FS85R.

No I am not judging all 4 cycle weedeaters based on a cheap troy bilt lol.. this particular one is just kinda cheap... the valves are so cheap feeling i adjusted them and jeez i felt like i was going to break something... oil pan is plastic  starter is between engine and shaft (usually the first sign of a cheap weedeater) spark plug is ridiculously tiny lol not that it matters its just so small and the muffler has to many extra parts.... get it running on first pull now has plenty of power its just shakey as hell and loud OMG loud guess my echo spoils me...

I'm now working on his 2cycle craftsman blower. This thing is actually decent seems like it has lots of power spark plug exhaust were completely gummed up with carbon the cause was a completely blocked spark arrestor screen I just drilled a 1/4 in hole through the whole thing who needs a muffler right? Cleaned exhaust replaced plug and did seafoam treatment. Now I think carb is dirty will start on choke run forever on choke will idle on open choke press trigger and it slowly dies so crappy zama carb Ima try to clean but I think replace the carb is the only option but they only paid
50 bucks on the machine not sure if he wants to spend that much on a new carb

Not my problem lol I fixed the problem and did a basic tune up :)

A real small engine mechanic would it track down where the shakey comes from and tell the customer how much it will cost to fix while they have it. Saying its not my problem is not a good attitude for any mechanic. The customer may have gave up trying to figure it or they didnt notice it/dont care longs it runs.

Well he's a friend of mine and no he doesn't care he wanted to see if I could fix it with no parts. He is going to buy a new one probably an echo 225 he loves mine. I'm not a real mechanic I don't do it for a living so ehh. And it is from the power head this machine is an attachmet series and looks pretty dry in the shaft I will tell him he needs some grease.
