Who out there has replaced the plastic front wheel bearings on MTD tractors with oilite or super oilite bushings?

Like the 941-0990 and 941-0516 outside bush??
I hope those are the correct #'s,,,
For MTD 14AR808K731
I see parts listing for complete wheel/tire assy...gotta dig deeper..

How about something like this: https://www.mcmaster.com/5905k27
Would the lack of spindle hardening be a problem?

I gotta look at my stash. Sure I have some, but I know the spindle is .75" (that's 3/4" for you,Boo...)

If you can find a small enough set then I am all for it. My problem is finding and getting them with in the time needed.

Needle rollers really should only be inside things that are fully enclosed.
A very small amount of dust can jamb the rollers then you have a steel on steel bearing.

Needle rollers are usually open and run direction on the shaft ( no inner race so the shafts need to be GROUND round and better than 75R hard.

Yeah, I kinda figgered the axle needed to be hardened........
Looks like I.m goin' bronze.
Thanks, Bert man!

Maybe I can figger a way to use a 3/4" x 8" shoulder bolt for the axle......

I don't know if it is possible, but would having bronze bushings all the way
thru the hub rather than at the ends provide a better system?

I would think, a properly fitted FULL-LENGTH bushing would be a better choice, any room to drill and tap the wheel hub for a zerk..??

It would have to be drilled at an angle...

McMaster has the bushing stock in 3", 6 1/2" and 13" lengths....
I have to check the bore size thru the hub.

Time for some Measuring & Machining, BUT .. the end result may be rewarding, however in your case, you'll probably sit down with a case of Brewski's and say... Screw-It ! ....

I received and installed the bronze flange bushings today.
Oilites on the inside and super oilites on the outers. I hope I got that right..
anyway, I had to press them in with the hydraulic press, then had to clean up the spindles
to get them on. A tight fit all the way around. (the old plastic bushings practically fell out...some actually did!)
I made sure to grease things up really well.
Now we see how ling they last..................

Is there enough room in there so grease can permeate / get in between the surfaces ???

No because they are not listed like that. They are just in the brass section under bushings.

Maybe at the hardware store........
check out the McMaster catalog and see how many grades they offer...............

Well, as usual,Boobot, you have taken a reasonable thread about a technical topic
and hijacked it to a foreign Spanish speaking communist country.

I guess only so much can be said about bushings anyway.

I know a town in north Indiana, which gives drivers the following instruction:
To go right, make 3 lefts.........
Sounds like you were the urban planner for that one (or, Michael Andretti....)
