I broke my Craftsman mower today, and now I'm looking at getting a new mower.
Yard is about half an acre in size, sloping from the top of the back yard down to the street. Grass is a mix of Bermuda and weeds.

Here's what I consider important in a mower. CARB compliant, non-propelled, and good mulching capability. I've gravitated toward Honda products, like the HRS, but my wife is iffy about the price. I thought about an electric mower but I'm not sure I'm ready for that.

Any suggestions?

How about a Battery operated? How about that EGO that everyone is talking about? Personally I don't like dragging a cord.

1/2 acre is small enough for a battery mower (tech has come a ling way) greenworks or kobalt have a 20" dual blade works nice

From your important list I think a Honda hrr or hrx would do you great although they are propelled you may like it. The stacked blades on those machines make mulching a breeze

The hrs is a really good machine I see some commercial outfits use them as trim mowers

There are four models, sounds like the push-only (PDA, PKA) might do the job. List price is $389, but you can usually find it discounted, so shop around.

The HRS216PDA (discontinued, but some still available) is a 21" side-discharge model. It has a manual choke and lever-style throttle control.
The HRS216PKA (latest version) has identical specs and performance, but features an automatic choke and a fixed throttle.

All HRS models have a 3-year warranty, steel mower deck, 4-stroke, overhead valve / overhead camshaft engine, and are manufactured (including the engine casting and machining) at the Honda plant in Swepsonville, NC.
