I have a 42" cut LT1000 riding mower. My Traction drive belt broke. I ordered the belt shown in the manual part 140294, listed as a1/2 x82 ' belt. Tried to put it on, and there is no way that it will fit. way too short. measured the old and cracked belt and it measured 87" All listings I can find keep coming back to the 82". Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks

Might of had an idler pulley fall off? Belt ain't stretching 5 inches.

Was this an OEM mower belt?

Not an automotive belt from say NAPA or Autozone?

post your model number and serial number. Also confirm if you are the original owner and that the history of the mower does not include unusual options or modifications. AI suggests that the LT1000 covered 10 years of production and came with many different configurations. I don't know but chasing parts for the marketing name on anything may lead to a lot of parts that don't fit. Plug in "LT1000" at sears parts and about 20 riding mowers come up, maybe more.

And there is at least one hydro static version that uses a 1/2-87.64. And that comes from 87.5 to 87.75 depending on the source. And another version uses a 1/2 x 95. So yes post the model number from the serial number tag.

Sounds like original poster needs an 87 inch belt !!!!

My LT1000 (917.275371) purchased new in May 2005 lists two different belt part numbers (like 1/2 inch difference in length) for the drive and mow belts. I use 1/2 x 95 kevlar for both.

Got a used (well) Craftsman EZ Series 6 speed Model 917.270810 with B-S 19.5 I/C Platinum. Ground drive belt was cracked and very worn. I ordered a new belt Part No. 532138255. I had to fight the new belt on. Double checked routing. There is not enough slack in the belt to stop the rear end from turning and I can't get the trans to shift unless I stop the engine and then shift into reverse or even Neutral. The new
v-belt is marked "144959" and is supposed to be 95"Lx0.5"W from Amazon by company called Technical Parts Store. I've never had any trouble with my orders from Amazon and wondering if I'm losing my
limited skills. I'm checking now to see if I can order a v-belt that is 1/2' longer. Your ideas will help as they usually do. Thanks All.

Both PNs are suppose to be 95-1/2 inches. Measure your belt that you received they may have tried sneaking in a 95".
