Just replaced the belt on the above model, and noticed when I took all apart that the blade driver has no protrusion inside to fit the key way on the drive shaft.
Just wondering if its sheared as I see no evidence of there having been one ....perhaps this is why it's not self propelling?
Should the blade driver have a raised area that fits in the key way? It seemed to mow fine but no propulsion.
Thanks.

If there is a keyway, there should be a key. The pulley on crankshaft should be separate from the blade adapter, therefore has nothing to do with mower not self propelling.

Star hit it on the head, but I have seen those key ways shear off.

And Yes I have too. Haven't seen one a couple years but I just don't get walk behinds in like I didn't. I even seen a few riders with manual PTOs to have sheared keys mainly because someone didn't torque the retainer to spec. Walk behinds with bar blades are more prone to shearing due to blade impacts.

Thanks Guys...Star Tech .....you're right....mine looks exactly like the photo where the pulley is one piece with the blade driver.
I guess I'll be ordering a new one :)
I just thought there'd be at least some evidence on the inside face if there had been one.

FYI....just came from the Toro dealer.....this blade driver has a driver spacer installed in the bottom....the little key is situated below the spacer which is why I couldn't see it. It is not designed to go into the keyway....this blade driver is friction fit.....

So to update that last statement....don't believe everything you're told, even by a Toro dealer.
When I got home I sprayed Move It down the shaft and the driver spacer came out with a little persuasion....and there ,low and behold, was the key on the inside of the blade driver....the driver spacer had seized below the key, and I couldn't see it through the pulley end as the hole is small.
All now running as it should LOL.

StarTech-
You seem to always want to prove someone wrong, in this case again, me. Of course I have seen blade adapters with a pulley as one piece. Of course I know the key is often part of the blade adapter. Of course I have seen the key sheared off and the whole blade adapter has to be replaced.

All I wish is for you and others to do your best and know what you are posting is correct. I don't do it to make the poster look bad but get them to do better as it will them to be better techs. Ever had one of those days where someone told you the wrong thing and you wasted a lot time just finding out were just BSing you.

Just throwing something out just does cut it with me. I do take the time to actual research things but might be the professional in me and 40+years of having to repair things that someone else told the customer anything just to get them out of their shop.

Matter of fact I just close a 15+ yr old account with Tri-Green [JD dealer] here because they started just constantly lying to me, both by phone and to my face. I rather have to wait for parts from an online dealer than be lied to.
