Maple Syrup is in the air!!

Sorry, the pics aren't so good. I'll try to get more. This is a small section of woods just off the side of the house. I also have 100 buckets I put up in the trees in the yard. My wife and kids are hanging them today.

This small bush is more for my kids, so yes they do have younger trees tapped. They bigger two bushes have nothing smaller than 8" tapped. If we can bear hug the tree and our fingers touch, it gets one tap. If we can't touch it gets two. I will hopefully be at the sugar house tonight before dark and will try to get more photos

Exactly what type/ species of Maple does it require to get syrup?

We are tapping rock maple, sugar maple, red maple. There is a mixture of "soft" maple and "hard" maple. They both produce good sap depending where their located

Learned something new, thought they only taped sugar maple. I see all the sugar bushes around here run hoses to the trees now and run there cooking with gas instead of fire wood.

We have a few sugar maples about what size do they need to be, and can you explain the tapping process, and what is needed?
