My LX178 rearend is making a whining noise. When I add fluid it pours out. Tightened hose clamps btween filler neck and rearend. No help. Could rubber be dry rotted? Wheres a good place to start? How do you get to rearend to work on it? :confused2:

You say you "Tightened hose clamps between filler neck and rearend" are you suspecting hose leaks? Or don't you know. If it is making a whining noise it could be a hydraulic pump running out of suction oil or you have bearing damage on the assembly hence the oil leak from the unit (still to confirm with inspection ) old rubber hoses could crack and break with sub zero temperatures. Bottom line is you will have to inspect rearend

Good luck
