I bought a used 2004 grasshopper #218 the hour meter isn't working. How do I fix or replace it?

Have you check all the connections to the meter? Also the surface underneath some of them use the back plate as the grounding surface for the meter.

Thank You for the info. I will check underneath for the ground. I have another question. I replaced an old 12 HP Murry with this 128 Grasshopper mower. The Murry cut the grass shorter than the Grass Hopper. I have lowered the deck but it doesn't stay in place like the Murry it appears spring loaded.

You should be getting two different voltages to the meter. Positive 12 volt and negative 12 volt. This would be your first test. If this is good then. If you just hook up the positive 12 volt on one terminal and if you get a 12volt negative reading on the other your gauge should be OK and if not it will need replacement. You will need to know how electric works.
