A while back, I installed a new brake cable on my 10323. Installing the cable looked easy, but it took me some time. When I finally got it on, the pull cord had NO tension at all, and just pulled all the way out. I played around with it some, and sometimes, it did have tension, and actually started the mower. Evidentally, something is wrong. I had to take the brake plate off to get the cable installed. It certainly appears that I got it back on correctly, but maybe I didnt.

Can anyone give me some advice on this. Many thanks.

Did you get the spring installed correctly? The brake assembly is just three pieces, plus the cable. The backplate which has the connection for the shorting wire, the brake plate which pivots up to apply the brake pad to the flywheel, and the spring which keeps the pad pressing on the flywheel unless you pull the cable. The cable has a special mushroom end. If that mushroom end is missing you won't be able to pull the brake pad away from the flywheel. The spring goes between the backplate and the brake plate, with the cable going directly thru the spring.

Many thanks for your advice. I think I installed everything correctly. I did take the brake pad and brake plate off, since I had a little trouble getting the spring and cable back on. It all looks correct, but the pull cord pulls sometime has NO tension. I can play with it a little, and the LB will get some tension, and start okay.

I was thinking maybe a key worn, or something about the flywheel. Have not looked at either, but will do so on a warm day soon.

Thanks again for your advice.
