I have a craftsman Garden tractor model 917.287480 with a 26 hp Kohler pro engine serial # 3703937783 model sv735 0016 engine. My original manual says the ignition module replacement # is 24 584 36-s but the actual [never replaced modules] number 24 584 41. The actual still in place modules have 3 prongs for the connector to attach but the picture of the replacement 24 584 36-s module only has 2 prongs. What is the correct replacement ignition module number? thanks Dan

Sounds like you have the battery voltage type ignition modules. they lastest and greatest conversion doesn't require the 12v feed anymore. Uses the current wiring harness but with modifications.

You are in "SmartSpark" territory, so you need to put up some pics to see what you have, and have a decent reason why you think replacing the coils will help you!!!! I know I am an arse, but I hate to see you waste 2-3 hundred bucks on coils that won't help you, when you solution might just be cleaning
a rusted terminal or two.... Or who knows, without intelligent discussion? Just put up a pic of the top of the coils, and we will know what you have. Also, pull the keyswitch out and take a pic of that.

Thanks but what is the correct ignition module number to match what I have now? I don't want to do a bunch of modifications if I have the latest. I can't find any replacement number 24 584 41 [what is installed now] anywhere on the internet. thanks Dan

From my Kohler dealer parts search. Your engine uses the DSAI system using the 24 584 63-s ignition module which has be superceded by 24 584 89-s, which has been discontinues and replaced with the MDI system which is the system that no longer requires the 12v feed to operate that I mentioned In an earlier post. the part number for the conversion kit is 24 707 01-s

Also good advice from Fish. Try to besure where your problem is. Seems like many choose carburetor first and ignition module second to replace when other problems exist.
