Unable to remove purple wire above oil filter. It’s clipped in the center of a plastic boot with 2 white wires on either side. See pic of old wire and new wire with clip. Help need technique to remove old wire.

Are you trying to remove the wire from the black housing? If you look at the loose wire, there's a tab that rises away from the connector. That holds it in. If you look at the connector in the housing, and wiggle the wire, you may be able to see where it catches. A tiny screwdriver, or something similar will usually release it.
 
I tried that but was unsuccessful. I wonder if that plastic housing could be removed with the lever to gain access to the clip.
 
A mouse ate wiring so trying to replace harness with a new one. All connections went well until this last one with the tab. I can’t seem to push it down from the back. Maybe I need a thinner tiny screw driver. I don’t want to pull to hard and really mess it up. I’m considering splicing the wire.
 
Try a flathead screwdriverfrom an eyeglass repair kit or thick needle from your wife's sewing kit.

When you push that tab down inside of the connector you need to wiggle the purple wire left/right gently to release it from the connector. You shouldn't have to apply too much force.

If you get too annoyed after a few beers, you can just splice the wires using bullet connectors like this. Ask me how I know lol.

The Delphi / Aptiv tool is PN 12094430. .035" thick at tip going to .051 at the thickest of flat section; .150" wide tapering to .096". If you do a lot of these F56 female terminals the tool is worth the cost.

Star tech. This is exactly my situation. I have tried several times to push the tab down with a Bobby pin inserted in the slot but still unable to get the clip to release. I will try a few more times but will likely will splice the wire. Hopefully this is a one time event for me. Just doing the repair myself. Thanks for your info.

The trick that is being overlooked I think is that the purple wire has to be pushed in first as a release tool is inserted when attempting to release the tab on the purple wire terminal connector.

I manage to get most of them to release with a large paperclip that fit snuggly into the slot or a small jeweler's flat tip screwdriver.
