Valves out of adjustment, flywheel key partially sheared would be the top two guesses.
While you are waiting for Robert to post the Honda specs, remove the top covers and flywheel retainers and check the flywheel key.
If the 2 halves of the hole line up to make a nice square then chances are it is ok but it is worthwhile to try to turn the flywheel while locking the blades from turning, if it is loose the key is toast.
When starting i get a bad kick back from pull starting GX200 what causes this?
Let's start with the serial number, and I'll look-up some troubleshooting details. The number is stamped/etched into the side the block like this:
![]()
don't you just hate that, Have to remove the engine from the machine just to see what engine you have. Had to do that on a place compactor back in march, and the replacement engine will be the same thing.Well i can't get to this area to see it unless i remove the engine it's on a Ryan Lawnair 28.
Okay, pass on digging out the serial number for now.
The GX200 did not change much over the years, so most specs/parts/etc. are the same. For example, the tune-up process is the same now as it was 15 years ago, as are the valve clearance specs:
Intake: 0.15 ア 0.02mm
Exhaust: 0.20 ア 0.02mm
Spark plug is a NGK BPR6ES, gap shoudl be set to 0.7~0.8 mm (0.028~0.031 in)
Engine oil is 0.63 quart of SAE 10W-30
Kicking back sure sounds like a timing issue. Will the engine start/run at all?
