John Deere 56 Rear Engine Rider

Has anybody on here ever had any experience with one of these mowers?

My grandfather won one in a raffle in like 1971 or 72. It ran for probably 15 years. It had to have very little work done to it and he cut a very, vary large yard with it. The reason it died was he had cataracts and could not see well and changed the oil in it and by mistake put auto transmission oil in it and then started it up and ruined the engine on it. I believe that mower would have lasted the average home owner a lifetime with very little problems.

Yeah I know. The point of the link was to show jekjr what some people think about their JD rear-engine riders. I wish they still made them. Maybe they just couldn't compete with the Snappers. :rolleyes:

All I know is that he ran that one for years and years and years and it gave very little trouble. He had a very large yard.
 
Oh now Fanatic. Just buy yourself a Troybilt Neighborhood Rider lol. Just think how cute you will look buzzing around on that. On a more serious note. I always assumed the John Deere ones were a Snapper. Maybe they made their own.

I don't remember what it was but I don't think it was a snapper. I know it beat the fire out of a push mower. I forget how wide the cut was but it had one blade. I think I remember it had a 6 hp Tecumseh motor.
 
I have a John Deere RER a GX 75 electric start that is perfect for my yard, it looks and runs like the day it was new. I have had this mower for 5 or 6 years, the only thing I had to do was replace the mower belt and drive belt. They don't make em like that anymore :thumbsup: I keep it well maintained, hope it will last till I no longer need a mower. :laughing:
