I've owned my JD 14SB since 1990. Great machine. Starts on second pull every time. I currently use it for edging about 1/2 hr per week.
I replaced the original Ogura Blade Brake Clutch in 1999 with Warner Clutch Replacement Kit p/n AM121452. It seems to be "that time" again. Today, the cost of the OEM part is almost what I paid for the machine when new, so I'm looking into other possibilities.
Option one: I haven't pulled the clutch off recently, but I'm almost certain that I have the woodruff key in crankshaft design. Based on what I can read, I'll need to buy the part with the slot and use my existing woodruff key(s). Can you help me with the right Warner part number? I'm mostly seeing 5916 which seems to have the integral key.
Option two: I don't seem to have any bearing noise (or my hearing is shot!), so I'm wondering if I could just replace the clutch disk. I did find that part on ebay as "John Deere 12PB 12PC 12SB 14PB 14PZ 14SB. Replacement Blade Clutch Lining ONLY". (Yes, I'd make sure of the bearing status before doing that.)
Option three: Last choice would be to buy the 5916 part and mix/match the parts from my current clutch that are woodruff key specific. Is that possible?
I'm hoping to get another 10 years or so out of this mower, so your help and ideas are greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks!
