My John Deere X300R (which I love) is making a very loud, whining noise coming from directly under the seat. It is not associated with the mower assembly. It is constant when the mower is moving. Any thoughts?
 
sounds like the transmission wining on you it its a hydro then it may just need a fluid and filter change

The closest moving obects from under the seat is the hydrostatic drive unit. Winding noise could be the drive belt check if it is ingood condition. Is the tension spring not damaged. Look at the drive sheeves and and idlers if in good conditions
