Jd x300 only cranks with coil ground removed

Since changing the battery I wasn't getting spark. It will start with the ground removed from the coils but pto will not engage. Seat safety switch is working, not sure how to proceed

thanks MechanicMark for the wiring diagrams..now if I could only read them......The seat and brake safety switches appear to be working, but not sure about the reverse switch, it is next to impossible to reach to bypass it. If it was not working properly, would that explain why the engine would not crank unless the coil ground wires were removed? I could understand if the engine would crank and run with the wires attached but not be able to engage the pto since in normal operation it just kicks the pto out and doesn't kill the engine if you reverse without lifting the pro switch.

how would you suggest I proceed?

First, do not bypass any switches, they are there for a reason, SAFETY! Post all engine numbers & engine manufacturer. The answer to your question is no.
