JD LX255 starter works won’t fire off

When I turn the ignition on this mower to the first position, red light comes on then as I turn it to start battery light comes on and as I push forward the two lights go off. The starter is turning the engine over but I’m not getting anything firing off. My main question is, are the lights telling us something.

Sounds like a failing ignition switch if has this switch. I have had two these to fail in the last year doing a similar thing where the power is lost as try to start.

Okay you got the older setup which have been superseded to the newer keyswitch and Ignition interlock module. Now HD Switch has similar to your current switch setup which would less then the JD parts.
